Kamal Haasan and director Shankar reunited after 28 years for the much-anticipated sequel, Indian 2. Given their groundbreaking work on the 1996 hit Indian, expectations were high for a spectacular film, especially with today’s advanced technology.
However, Indian 2 turned out to be one of Shankar’s worst films. It was criticized as boring, unimaginative, and outdated, damaging the reputation of the Indian brand and sparking debates about whether Kamal Haasan and Shankar should have reunited or not. Now Indian 3 is also in the pipeline to be released next year.

There’s another epic collaboration coming up.
Kamal Haasan is teaming up with legendary director Mani Ratnam after 37 years. Their 1987 film, Nayakan, is celebrated as one of the greatest films of all time and a highlight of Indian cinema.

Their new project, Thug Life, is set to release in December 2024. However, Mani Ratnam is also not in the best of his form these days. His last film Ponniyin Selvan made money but not many were blown away by it.
Fans are hopeful but nervous that this new combination won’t end up a nightmare like the Indian 2 experience. The hope is that Thug Life will be a compelling gangster action drama that restores the legacy of both Kamal Haasan and Mani Ratnam.
