Gujarat: The number of people affected by Chandipura virus in Gujarat has increased to 29. While the panic of corona infection has subsided, now the infection of ‘Sandipura virus’ has posed a new threat in the northern states. The Chandipura virus, which only targets children between the ages of 9 months and 14 years, has created tension in states including Gujarat and Rajasthan.
Parents with their children rushed to the hospital as they would die within 8-10 hours if infected with this virus. This virus is spread by mosquitoes, sand flies and ticks. People are not able to recognize it because it looks like a normal flu. In this case, a large number of children were hospitalized due to mysterious fever in Gujarat.
One child died last Tuesday. Doctors had sent the child’s blood sample to the National Institute of Virology, Pune. At the end of the investigation, it was confirmed that the child had died due to Chandipura virus infection. 3 children in Rajkot, 2 in Ahmedabad and 1 child in Panchmahal who were being treated with the same symptoms have died of Sandipura virus. According to Gujarat Health Department, 29 people, including 15 children, have been affected by Chandipura virus.
