Honda has a robust product strategy for the Indian market. The Japanese automaker has begun to revive its market with the launch of the Elevate midsize SUV, which will be followed by its electric iteration in 2026. The plan also outlines a new flagship 7-seater SUV, a new-generation City sedan, and a compact SUV, due in 2027, 2028, and early 2029, respectively. Interestingly, all these upcoming Honda cars will be designed on an all-new modular platform (codenamed PF2), which is currently in its initial development phase.

The new PF2 architecture will be compatible with both ICE (internal combustion engine) and electric powertrains. It will be a global platform used for small and medium-sized vehicles, and India is likely to serve as a production hub for both domestic and export markets. The first model based on the PF2 modular platform will be a three-row SUV, co-developed by Honda’s Japan and Thailand R&D centers with inputs from India.

The report further states that the upcoming Honda 7-seater SUV will enter production in October 2027. Details of the model are scanty at this point of time. However, the SUV is expected to share the 121bhp/145Nm, 1.5L, four-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine with the Elevate. It could also be offered with the City’s Atkinson Cycle strong hybrid powertrain, which consists of a 1.5L, four-cylinder engine and two electric motors. This setup delivers a claimed power of 126bhp and 253Nm of torque.

In the company’s production lineup, the new Honda 7-seater SUV will sit above the Elevate. The new-gen Honda City will be the second production model underpinning the brand’s new PF2 platform. Major design changes and feature upgrades are expected for the sedan. Honda’s all-new compact SUV, which will compete with the Maruti Brezza, Hyundai Venue, and Kia Sonet, will launch in the first half of 2029. Honda will bring in its second electric offering, based on the new heavily localized PF2 platform, sometime in 2029.
