Google is introducing its latest Pixel 9 series of smartphones in India on August 13. The company has already confirmed that the series will have three models — Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, Pixel 9 Pro XL, and the Pixel 9 Pro Fold. Now, a new Pixel 9 banner on Flipkart hints that Google might only bring two out of these three devices to India.
Since the launch of the Pixel smartphone lineup, Google has a partnership with Flipkart as its official retail partner in India. This continues with the Pixel 9 series, which Flipkart has begun teasing. Judging by the banners and listing on Flipkart, only the Pixel 9 Pro XL and Pixel 9 Pro Fold are expected to be released in India.
This marks a shift from last year when Google introduced both the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro in India, skipping the Pixel Fold. This year, Google seems focused on bringing only its top-tier Pixel smartphones to India, likely resulting in higher price points. Those seeking a more affordable option may need to consider previous-generation models.
Also, this year, Google started manufacturing Pixel smartphones in India, which could help the company price these devices more aggressively.
The entire Pixel 9 series will be powered by an in-house Tensor G4 processor, and these are expected to be the first set of smartphones to ship with Android 15, with several new AI features. While Google has maintained the same industrial design, it has made enough changes to help differentiate between two generations of Pixel smartphones.
