Dengue: Schools take preventive measures against dengue menace in Nagpur | Nagpur News

Nagpur: As cases of dengue and chikungunya rise in the city, focus has shifted to educational institutes where hundreds, if not thousands, gather each day for hours and risk being exposed to mosquitoes.
Many schools have started fogging the campus and taken steps to ensure that no breeding spots are found.

The fog is blowing: Schools smoke out, dengue menace

Anupama Sagdeo, principal of Delhi Public School (Lava), confirmed that fogging has been done on the school campus as a precautionary measure.
Kanchan Ukey, principal of Centre Point School (Wardhaman Nagar), said, “All branches of CPS have completed fogging for the safety of children and the staff.”
A parent told TOI that continuous rain has created multiple spots on campus where water accumulates.
“Look at play grounds in most schools, you will find multiple spots where water accumulates, thus creating perfect breeding spots for mosquitoes,” said the parent.
Principals of schools TOI spoke to said they have decided to do fogging every 15 days, if not every week.
“It takes around two to four hours if done properly. So once kids and staff leave, the fogging contractors spray every classroom and open spots. For a campus with about 1,500 children, it may take about two to four hours. But of course, there are shortcuts employed by some schools where they focus only on open areas and not inside the building,” the principal said.
Anmol Badjatia, principal of the Jain International School said, “We do fogging and pest control for flies and mosquitos every 15 days . It’s a standard protocol for us. We also spray wet areas like bathrooms with an anti-mosquito spray three times a day.”
