Mahindra Threatening Tata’s 3rd Position In Top Carmakers List

Mahindra & Tata Motors have released their sales numbers for the month of September 2023. Tata Motors has managed to retain its 3rd position in the list of top car manufacturers in terms of sales. However, Mahindra has managed to sell over 41K SUVs last month and is now threatening Tata’s 3rd position.

While Mahindra & Mahindra has posted an impressive sales growth of 20 per cent, Tata has reported a decline of 6 per cent in its sales in September 2023. Maruti Suzuki and Hyundai Motor India retain their 1st and 2nd position respectively. Both brands have posted positive YoY sales growth in September 2023.

Tata Motors has sold 44,809 units in the domestic market in September 2023 as against 47,654 units in the same month last year. The brand’s passenger vehicles sales reported a year-on-year decline of 6 per cent. The total passenger vehicles sales including (PV IB + EV) stood at 45,317 units last month as against 47,864 units in September 2022, reporting a YoY sales decline of 5 per cent. On the other hand, Mahindra has posted a year-on-year sales increase of 20 per cent in September 2023. The company has managed to sell 41,267 UVs including SUVs & MPVs last month as against 34,262 units in the same month last year. Mahindra is planning to produce around 49,000 UVs per month before the end of this financial year, which is very evident from the continuous rise in its sales. The company has increased its production capacity to meet the rising demand for its new SUVs including the Scorpio-N, XUV700 and the Scorpio Classic.

The gap between the Tata Motors and Mahindra was less than 3,000 units in September 2023 sales. Seeing the growing demand for Mahindra SUVs, we can expect a continuous rise in its sales.
