All-New Honda 7-Seater SUV India Launch Timeline

Honda Cars India entered the midsize SUV segment with the launch of the Elevate in September 2023. The model initially registered decent sales, averaging over 4,500 units in the first five months. However, its demand declined afterward. From February to June 2024, the Honda Elevate recorded average sales of around 2,380 units.

The Japanese automaker has already revealed its product expansion plan, which includes five new SUVs by 2030. The range will include both locally produced and CBU (Completely Built-Up) units. This strategy features the Honda Elevate EV, a compact SUV (possibly sub-4 meters), a 7-seater SUV, and the new-generation City sedan.

Codenamed DG9D, the Honda Elevate EV will be manufactured at the carmaker’s Tapukara facility in Rajasthan. Like its ICE-powered version, the electric SUV will also be exported to overseas markets. The Japanese automaker is developing a new global platform, PF2, that supports multiple powertrains. The first Honda vehicle to use this new modular platform will be a three-row SUV, set to enter production in October 2027, followed by its market launch.

The new Honda 7-seater SUV, which will be positioned above the Elevate, will be designed and developed by Honda’s R&D centers in Japan and Thailand. It’s too early to confirm its powertrain details, but the SUV could be powered by the 1.5L naturally aspirated petrol engine from the Elevate. There is also speculation that Honda might consider offering a strong hybrid powertrain for its upcoming 7-seater SUV.

The sixth-generation City sedan will follow the new 7-seater SUV in 2028. Based on the all-new PF2 platform, the model is expected to undergo significant design changes. Rumors suggest that the 2028 Honda City might showcase the brand’s new design language. Additionally, Honda is considering introducing a sub-4 meter SUV in early 2029 and its second electric vehicle by the same year.
