Maruti Suzuki’s EV Plans – Launch, Expansion, and Export

Maruti Suzuki is all set to foray into the electric vehicle (EV) segment with the production-ready version of the eVX concept SUV in early 2025. Before the product’s launch, the company aims to increase customers’ confidence in EVs by boosting its EV exports from India to foreign markets, including Japan and Europe. Hisashi Takeuchi, MD & CEO of Maruti Suzuki, said the company’s primary focus is on enhancing customer confidence through its products, services, solutions, and communication.

To promote EVs, Maruti Suzuki will introduce multiple solutions addressing customers’ queries related to their EVs. The brand will utilize its network to provide after-sales support. Takeuchi further revealed that the company is working on an EV with a 60kWh battery pack, promising a range of 500km. While he didn’t mention the name of this high-specification EV, he is likely referring to the upcoming Maruti eVX.

Additionally, Maruti Suzuki is working on other green technologies, such as strong hybrids, hydrogen-powered vehicles, and biofuels. Takeuchi said the brand is committed to offering compact and efficient batteries with powerful electric motors for EVs and hybrid vehicles, along with providing higher thermal efficiency for ICE and ICE-blended vehicles.

The upcoming Maruti eVX SUV will be the first electric offering from the Indo-Japanese automaker, manufactured in India. This Made-in-India EV will also be exported overseas. It is reported that the company will allocate 75 to 80 percent of its output of 1.5 lakh units for exports. Maruti Suzuki’s long-term plan includes six EVs catering to multiple segments, set to arrive by the financial year 2031.

After the eVX, the automaker will introduce a compact electric MPV (codename YMC) and an electric hatchback based on the eWX concept. Maruti Suzuki’s strong hybrid technology (HEV) will debut with the Fronx facelift next year. The same hybrid system will gradually be introduced across all the brand’s mass-market models.
