It’s just a diversionary tactic: Priyank Kharge on One Nation One Election

“Any religion that does not promote equality and does not ensure that you have the dignity of being a human being is not a religion, according to me.Any religion that does not treat you like a human is not a religion, according to me. So it’s as good as a disease,” Priyank Kharge said at a press conference about the upcoming Bengaluru Tech Summit.
On Saturday, DMK youth wing chief and Tamil Nadu Sports Minister Udhayanidhi, who is also a son of Tamil Nadu CM MK Stalin, compared Sanatana Dharma with the likes of dengue and malaria, among other diseases, and said, “We have to eradicate them”.

Former Karnataka chief minister Basavaraj Bommai and senior BJP functionaries slammed Udhayanidhi Stalin, dubbing him “Udhayanidhi Hitler”. “It is the mindset of a group of parties who are joining hands together to come to power at the cost of the social fabric of this country. They want to come to power at any cost. It is very clear that it’s anti-democratic and anti-humanity. Udhayanidhi Hitler is the right word for him,” Bommai said.
On “One Nation, One Election”, junior Kharge earlier called it a diversion from the India alliance. “They (BJP) are scared; they did call the Parliament session for the pandemic; they did not call it for Manipur; they did not call it for Chinese intrusion… Suddenly ‘One Nation, One Election’ is coming back. We need five constitutional amendments for it. In a federal structure, they have to consult the state government as well. Where have they consulted the state government? I request to have a look at the pros and cons of this,” said Priyank Kharge.
Kharge also highlighted the BJP’s Karnataka wing’s now-deleted tweet where Rahul Gandhi’s morphed picture was shared, mocking him over the mega launch of the Gruha Lakshmi scheme in Karnataka.
“They are talking about Karnataka’s economy and the problems it may face because of our five guarantees, but let me tell you that migrants from the BJP-ruled states of Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh come to Karnataka to work because of its economic strength and ability to provide livelihoods. Natives from our state don’t come to your states,” he stated.
He also said that while Prime Minister Narendra Modi has the time to conduct scripted radio shows, he has never taken a single press conference to address the economic challenges that are being faced by India.
“Dear PM Modi, on the one hand, you mock this as freebie culture, but on the other, you are also copying the Gruha Lakshmi scheme in Madhya Pradesh and repackaging it as Ladli Behna. Modinomics is meant to fail. Demonetization, poor GST implementation, and pathetic handling of the Covid-19 pandemic have made us a very prosperous country (mockingly). So, please do not worry about Karnataka,” he said.
