Shiva Nirvana now has four films under his belt, and Kushi marks his fourth project, where he both capitalized on his strengths and fell prey to his recurring weaknesses.
As soon as the first weekend concluded, Kushi’s fate became painfully clear. This begs the question: Who should shoulder the blame for Kushi’s misfire?
Kushi boasts the right music, casting and production values but Shiva Nirvana’s mediocre writing proved to be its downfall, leaving the love story devoid of any magic.
A more significant issue he introduced was the film’s excessive runtime, which could have been easily trimmed. For those who found the film tolerable, the extended duration tested their patience.
Director Shiva Nirvana heavily relies on simple incidents and his writing prowess to create magic. However, unless he significantly improves his writing skills, these scripts will remain stuck in mediocrity.
A small section of the audience may be okay with this type of content when it’s fresh, but the movie will never find its footing at the box office. That’s where ‘Kushi’ failed.
