The MG Astor Blackstorm edition has been officially launched in India, featuring a 1.5L naturally aspirated petrol engine producing 108bhp and 144Nm of torque. Both manual and CVT automatic gearbox options are available. The manual variant is priced at Rs 14,47,800, while the CVT version costs Rs 15,76,800 (all prices are ex-showroom). Notably, the Astor Blackstorm edition is based on the mid-level Smart trim. Let’s explore what sets it apart:
Exterior Enhancements: The special edition boasts several cosmetic upgrades, including a honeycomb pattern grille with a gloss black finish, blacked-out front and rear bumpers, gloss black roof rails, gloss black door garnish, black alloy wheels with red brake calipers, and ‘Blackstorm’ badges on the front fenders, imparting a sporty appearance.
Interior Styling: The black and red theme continues inside the cabin. The MG Astor Blackstorm edition features Tuxedo Black upholstery with red stitching, red stitching on the dashboard and doors, Sangria Red surrounds for the JBL speakers and AC vents. The cabin retains features like a 7-inch fully digital instrument cluster, personalized AI assistant, iSmart connected car tech with 80+ features, cruise control, 6-speakers with tweeters, digital car key with Bluetooth, rear parcel shelf, and a tyre pressure monitoring system, similar to the regular Smart trim.
In addition to the Astor Blackstorm edition, MG India is reportedly planning to introduce a new electric SUV in 2025. Based on the Baojun Yep, this model will utilize the Global Small Electric Vehicle (GSEV) platform. Its powertrain includes a 28.1kWh lithium-ion phosphate battery and a 68bhp electric motor, offering a claimed range of up to 303km on the CLTC cycle. The battery can be fast-charged from 30% to 80% in 35 minutes using a DC fast charger or in 8.5 hours from 20% to 80% via an AC charger. MG continues to expand its electric vehicle portfolio to cater to the growing demand for eco-friendly mobility solutions.
