4 Popular Mahindra SUVs To Go Electric

In August 2023, Mahindra & Mahindra revealed its ambitious EV (electric vehicle) plans, including the Scorpio, Bolero, and Thar. Alongside this, the carmaker will introduce multiple EVs under two distinct brands – XUV.e (XUV.e8 and XUV.e9) and BE (BE.05, BE.07, and BE.09). We have seen these new electric SUVs in their concept forms, and the Mahindra XUV.e8 will be the first production version among them to hit the market. It will essentially be the electric iteration of the Mahindra XUV700, slated to enter production from December 2024.

Mahindra’s XUV.e and BE electric SUVs will be designed at the brand’s MADA (Mahindra Advanced Design Europe) design studio in Oxfordshire, UK. All models will feature a unique design language and share the same Born Electric INGLO platform.

The indigenous automaker has confirmed that electric versions of the Thar, Scorpio, and Bolero are also in the pipeline. The electric versions of all three SUVs will bear the ‘.e’ moniker. The upcoming Mahindra electric SUVs will feature the brand’s new logo. The Thar.e, Scorpio.e, and Bolero.e will be constructed on the P1 version of the INGLO architecture, allowing them to retain their off-road capabilities. These EVs will feature a rear-wheel-drive (RWD) system with motors sourced from Volkswagen. The electric Scorpio might also be offered with an all-wheel-drive (AWD) setup.

The Mahindra Thar.e conceptwhich made its global debut last month in South Africa, looks completely different from its ICE (Internal Combustion Engine) version. Upfront, it boasts a squared-off, retro-styled stance with a rectangular grille, a compact windshield, a pronounced bumper, and two square LED DRL signatures. Some other design highlights include off-road tires, a flat roof, a blacked-out rear, LED taillamps, and a tailgate with a spare wheel. Both the 3-door and 5-door Thar.e SUVs will feature the same rear powertrain and battery packs. There could also be a dual-motor setup with an AWD system.
