Traffic curbs ahead of G20; police advise people to use metro

Delhi G20 Summit Live Updates (September 7): With world leaders arriving in the national capital today ahead of the G20 Summit, stringent traffic regulations have come into force since early Friday. The New Delhi district has been designated as Controlled Zone-I till Sunday 11.59 pm because of the two-day Summit. Leaders set to arrive later in the day include US President Joe Biden, UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, Japanese PM Fumio Kishida, and Saudi Arabian King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud among others.

What’s the best way to commute today? In view of the numerous restrictions in place, the Delhi Police has advised people to use metro services, especially passengers heading towards the New Delhi Railway Station or IGI Airport. The most affected routes will be from IGI Airport to South Delhi and New Delhi. The Delhi Metro has decided to start its services from 4 am from terminal stations on all lines of the network from September 8 to 10 following a request from Delhi Police Commissioner Sanjay Arora. Police have advised people to use the navigation app mapmyindia’ to get around the city till the restrictions are in place, PTI reported.

What are the restrictions in Delhi for the Summit? The New Delhi area, which houses the G20 Summit venue and hotels where delegates will be staying, will be put under a tight security ring from Friday morning and there will a slew of traffic restrictions in place. Police said no vehicular movement will be allowed on NH-28 and NH-48 towards the Dhaula Kuan area. While schools have been asked to shut, offices have been advised to allow employees to work from home.

Speaking after the inauguration, Kejriwal said Delhi has now become the city with the most number of electric buses on its streets. He said by the end of 2023, the city will have 1,900 electric buses.
