Apple is expected to unveil the Watch Series 9 and Watch Ultra 2 at its upcoming September 12 event, where we will also see the iPhone 15 series. While the tech giant may not make any major design changes, the new smartwatches might get a new chip and improved sensors.

According to Bloombergboth Watch Series 9 and Watch Ultra 2 will feature the company’s new U2 chip, which brings an upgraded version of Apple’s ultra-wideband aimed at improving the existing ‘Find My’ capabilities. Rumour has it that the ultrawide-band chip will also make it to the iPhone 15.

Previously rumours hint that the upcoming watches will be powered by the S9 chip and bring “significant speed improvements”. Compared to the S8 chip, it is reportedly 20 per cent faster and is more power efficient. The new chip might also bring dual-band GPS support and support for 5G networks.

The Cupertino-based tech giant is also in the process of developing the 10th iteration of its smartwatch with a major visual overhaul and a new magnetic attachment-based strap system. The Apple Watch X is slated to launch in 2024 or 2025 to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the smartwatch series.
