With over 90 mm rainfall in 12 hours, Uttar Pradesh’s capital city Lucknow has recorded the highest downpour – started in Sunday evening and continued till Monday morning – of this year’s monsoon. Roads have been waterlogged causing traffic snarls in several important places.

A number of residents in Lucknow’s Jankipuram Sector F , Chowk, Faizullahganj, LDA colony Kanpur road, Ashiana expressed their difficulties due to heavy water logging on various social media platforms and pleaded for help from authorities. Water logging was also reported from VVIP areas like Vikramaditya Marg, Kalidas Marg where ministers reside in palatial bungalows, where LMC engineers installed pumps to flush out water in the night itself and generators were installed to operate these pumps.

Meanwhile Divisional commissioner Roshan Jacob was out in the field with municipal commissioner Inderjeet Singh at 5 am, she visited Jankipuram area, Munshipulia, she also visited the pumping stations of Jankipuram to see if these pumps were functioning or not.

Weather condition today

Due to cyclonic circulation condition, several districts in Uttar Pradesh will witness light to heavy rainfall today.

Etawah, Auraiya, Gonda, Kannauj, Ayodhya and Basti will experience heavy to very heavy rain, according to MeT. Also, nearly 35 districts will witness light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorms.

Showers will continue in Lucknow and ajdoining areas of Bundelkhand. Wind speed will remain between 20 to 25 kmph.

Schools will remain closed

Early on Monday morning District Magistrate Suryapal Gangwar ordered closure of all the schools in districts as meteorological department predicted more rains, a warning was issued for the residents also by the DM office that no one should come out of home without any essential work, today there is possibility of more rains with lightning and thunderstorms. The warning says avoid standing under trees or weak buildings.
