One of the most awaited films of all time, Allu Arjun’s “Pushpa 2” is set to release on August 15, 2024, strategically capitalizing on national holidays.
Independence Day falls on the release day, which is Thursday, creating a long weekend, with the film’s first Monday coinciding with Raksha Bandhan and the second Monday with Janmashtami.
This advantageous scheduling minimizes the typical Monday drop in box office collections, especially in the Hindi market. The huge anticipation for the sequel, coupled with positive word of mouth, could propel the film’s success.
But things are not going to be that easy for Pushpa 2 as Rohit Shetty’s hugely awaited Singham 3 is also releasing on the same date. It’s a mammoth Bollywood project starring Ajay Devgn, Tiger Shroff, Deepika Padukone, Akshay Kumar, and Ranveer Singh.
The film is one of the hottest films next year from the Hindi industry, but with Pushpa 2’s announcement, its box office potential has come down considerably due to the clash.
But it goes without saying that Singham 3 will also dent Pushpa 2’s collections in the North by at least 25-30%, which is a big number. Pushpa 2 will not get as many screens in the Hindi belts as it would have got without clashing with a big franchise film like Singham 3.
In all probability, Singham 3 might postpone or prepone because right now, no film would want to reduce its potential by clashing with a monster like Pushpa 2.
But the makers will take that decision a month or two before the release as they would want to reap the benefit of staying in the news and getting free publicity. Singham 3’s name would also be buzzing on and off social media whenever Pushpa 2’s name is taken.
