The Kerala High Court has dismissed a sexual assault case against actor Unni Mukundan. Both parties reached a mutual settlement, leading to the charges being dropped.
Justice P Gopinath issued the order, noting the low likelihood of a successful prosecution and the lack of public interest in continuing the proceedings.
This case has had a complex history. In February 2023, Mukundan’s bail plea was denied amid allegations of his lawyer bribing judges. In May, the court lifted the stay on proceedings, potentially leading to a trial.
The victim claimed Mukundan assaulted her during a meeting in 2017, prompting her to file a complaint.
Mukundan denied the allegations and filed a defamation case against her, accusing her of seeking ₹25 lakhs in a settlement. His attempts to quash the case in lower courts were unsuccessful, leading him to appeal to the High Court.
Unni Mukundan, known for his role in the 2022 film Malikappuram, is now set to star in an untitled Tamil film alongside Soori, Sasikumar, and Malayalam actress Sshivada, with Vetrimaaran as the writer.
