In November 2022, Soren had appeared before the ED in connection with the Sahebganj ‘Rs 1000 crore’ illegal mining case in which his confidante and assembly representative Pankaj Mishra was arrested.

Soren was then summoned for the second time in August this year, however, according to The Indian Express report, it was not clear for which case. Referring to the call by the agency as “actuated by malice” and a part of a political conspiracy to destabilise a democratically elected government, he had then written to the agency to withdraw the summons, failing which he would seek legal remedies.

ED is investigating several cases in Jharkhand under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).
