‘Wish every city would have this’: Artist builds a ‘cat house’ on the streets of Spain | Trending News

A small mural designed specifically to cater to local cats in Spain is winning over netizens. The mural, located in the narrow streets of Valencia, a municipality in Spain, has been designed as a small house with a door. It is built on the wall of a local museum. The cats use the ‘door’ of this mural house to enter and exit the museum complex. This mural is called Casa de los Gatos, which translates to ‘Cat house’.

Artist Alfonso Yuste Navarro created the mural in 2003. A Spanish inscription on the mural says, “In memory of the four cats that were left in Barrio del Carmen in 1094.” Barrio del Carmen is a neighbourhood in Valencia, while the inscription references the legend of the “four cats”.

In the year 1094, Valencia was under Cid Campeador, a warlord in medieval Spain who believed that cats brought bad luck. So he ordered the mass killing of cats in Valencia. However, four cats escaped the wrath of his regime and survived.

On Sunday, popular X account @Rainmaker1973 posted a video of Casa de los Gatos that showed a black cat using it. This clip has over 32,000 likes. Commenting on it, an X user wrote, “That’s a great use of his artistic skills. I love this! I wish every city would have this. I would just want to walk around looking for all of the kitty houses!”.

Another person wrote, “Impressive art. « The house is only a foot or two tall but it is designed in a classically Valencian style. It has a Spanish tiled roof, a little fountain, and a ‘garden’ to the side (actually just one potted plant). »”.
