The Kangaroo team first did this in the 1987 World Cup and then repeated this feat again in 1992. In this way, Australia has the record of winning by the smallest margin in terms of runs in this global tournament.

While chasing the target, Srikanth and Navjot Singh Sidhu took India towards victory by playing half-centuries, but Craig McDermott’s brilliant bowling made the Indian innings faltered.
McDermott took four wickets in that match which also included the wicket of Sidhu. India eventually lost wickets at regular intervals and were all out for 269 runs in 49.5 overs. Five years later, in 1992, Australia defeated India by the same margin under the Duckworth-Lewis rule.
