From Modak to Puran Poli, there are many dishes that are believed to be his favourites and people often prepare these items at home and offer them to him as bhog. For the uninitiated, Ganesh Chaturthi is celebrated as the birthday of Lord Ganesha, and this day is also known as Vinayaka Chaturthi. During these 10 days, devotees who bring Bappa home also observe fasts and are expected to follow certain rules.

As per mythology experts, it is not mandatory to keep Ganesha for 10 days. One can also keep him for 1.5 days, 3 days, 7 days, or 10 days. Also, here are a few other food-centric rules to follow after the Ganpati sthapana is done. Take a look at the rules below:
Offer him food first
During his stay at your home, make sure that the first serving of food is offered to Lord Ganesh. Make sure that the food is sattvik and is served with respect to him.

Avoid ginger and garlic
Once the Lord Ganesh sthapna is done, till his departure (visarjan), it is suggested not to cook or eat onion and garlic.
Avoid non-veg and alcohol
Like any other Hindu festival, this one also discourages the consumption of non-vegetarian food, eggs, tobacco, and alcohol during the 10-day festival.
Offer him modak and laddoo
We all know that Lord Ganesha loves modak and laddoos; hence, it is suggested to offer him different varieties of modak and laddoos during his stay at home.

Savoury food consumption
As per experts, devotees who observe fast should avoid eating savoury dishes before offering prayer and arti to Bappa every morning until his departure.
Bhog and aarti
One should offer bhog and aarti to Lord Ganesh twice a day during these 10 days to seek his blessings and bring in prosperity.
Apart from all these rules, the Lord Ganesha idol should not be left unattended during these 10 days.
