ENG vs IRE, 1st ODI: Team news

England will be led by Zak Crawley, with Ben Duckett as his deputy. Crawley had a blockbuster Ashes campaign, and has been given the duties despite playing only three ODIs for his side, all of which came in 2021. The squad includes a number of new faces, with four uncapped players and seven players with six or fewer ODIs under their belts.

Joe Root is the only player who is part of England’s World Cup squad set to play in the game. He asked to be included in the squad for the first ODI after a poor series against New Zealand.

Ireland, who failed to qualify for the World Cup, will be led by Paul Stirling, who will open along with Andrew Balbirnie. Ireland will also play Curtis Campher at No.3, as confirmed by Andrew White, the chief selector.

Match prediction – Today’s England-Ireland live match

It is expected to be a close-fought series, with a number of new faces in the England team and a strong Ireland lineup. With a significant amount of rain forecast in the early afternoon it’s expected that the match will be shortened. With a deep batting lineup and plenty of T20 experience in the side, that eventuality would favour England. Although, with Stirling and Harry Tector among their number as well as Josh Little, Ireland could pull off a surprise.
