One of the Bollywood star actresses, Kareena Kapoor’s latest movie Jaane Jaane has released today on popular OTT medium Netflix. It is based on the Japanese novel The Devotion of Suspect X by Heigo Higashino. Jaideep Ahlawat and Vijay Varma played key roles in it. Directed by Sujoy Ghosh, this movie is streaming in Hindi, Telugu and Tamil languages. Now let’s see the review of this movie.

Story:

The story revolves around Maya D’Souza alias Sonia D’Souza (Kareena Kapoor), a single mother living in Kalimpong. She works in a cafe to take care of her daughter Tara D’Souza (Naisha Khanna). But Maya does not like her husband Ajith Mathre (Saurabh Sachdeva). That’s why Tara gets separated from him before birth. But Naren Vyas (Jaideep Ahlawat) who lives next door to Maya secretly loves her. Ajith Mahatre from Blue Moon suddenly comes to Kalimpong and visits Maya’s house. Maya thinks that Ajith came for money but he has other plans. At that time Maya kills her husband Ajith with the help of her daughter Tara. But Naren helps Maya to hide the murder. Why did Maya actually kill her husband, and will Maya and Naren be caught by the police for this murder, and how the story took a turn should be seen in the entire movie.

Plus Points:

Jaideep Ahlawat entertained the audience with his impressive performance. Especially his key role entertains the audience. As always, Kareena Kapoor stole the hearts of the audience with the role of Maya. Along with the key scenes, her performance in the last 40 minutes should be said to be the main highlight of the movie. The set with small town setup is very good for such a crime thriller. Vijay Verma has given a super performance as a police officer. His diverse role in this movie will entertain the audience.

Minus Points:

Although Jaane Jaane is based on the Japanese novel The Devotion of Suspect X by Heigo Higashino, it seems to be somewhat inspired by the previous crime action Malayalam movie Dhishya. Especially if we see the scene where the murder is hidden, we will remember the scene from the movie. That’s why the first hour of the movie is somewhat reminiscent of that movie. As the scene is being remade in other languages too, the audience of other languages will remember the same. But in Jaan Jaan, the final portion scenes are different, along with the impressive performances of the characters. The first half is slow and the editing team could have cut some scenes. But the film ends with some questions unanswered. But it would have been better if the character of Ajith Matre had been written in more detail.

Technical category:

The background score by Shore Police is good. Avik Mukhopadhyay’s camera work is impressive. Along with the dialogues, the production values are also good. But the editing department should work better. And when it comes to director Sujoy Ghosh, they worked with Jaane Jaane only to make him seem OK. Good acting from the actors and also the final portions are good. Although it is based on a Japanese novel, it is admittedly reminiscent of the movie Drishya. It would have been better if the director had written the screenplay in a more interesting way.

Verdict:

Overall Jaane Jaane is an okay crime thriller. The last 40 minutes portion of this is good. It reminds me of a scene from the Malayalam super hit movie Dhishya which is also based on a Japanese novel. But it would have been better if the makers had made the film with another point. Because most of the scenes seem to have been seen in it. Kareena Kapoor, Jaideep Ahlawat and Vijay Varma impressed with their performances. And apart from their excellent performances, some well-executed scenes make this movie a no-brainer.
