With time, comedy with a hint of romance and friendship was taking a boring turn; it was filled with monotony. But in recent times, it has indeed received an injection of rejuvenation as AppleTV brings its own spin to the genre.
If you are a fan of friendly comedy, you need to tune into ‘Still Up.’
The story revolves around two best buds, Danny (Craig Roberts), and Lisa (Antonia Thomas), who are suffering from chronic insomnia. So, their life begins when everyone sleeps as they take you on a journey of a world with a different perspective.
Most of their conversations take place over the phone as they go on to discover the night world. Lisa also has a life full of complications as she is a mother and lives with her boyfriend, Veggie (Blake Harrison), who is unaware of the nightlife she lives.
Now, this series is more than just two people talking to each other on the phone for 30 minutes, but the journey of friendship and their building relationship is indeed a fun time.
Besides the romantic aspect and friendship, this also explores and discovers more about certain serious issues like insomnia and scars from the past, which play the most pivotal role.
Lisa and Danny’s journey involves them navigating their roles in life and their connection to each other. It would be wonderful to witness more face-to-face meetings over late-night coffee or drinks, as their interactions on FaceTime alone don’t fully capture their connection. Nonetheless, we can’t help but appreciate the humor and charm that Thomas and Roberts bring to their roles as Lisa and Danny, which makes us yearn for more in-person moments between them.
