Veteran film director KG George, known for his work in Malayalam cinema, has died at the age of 77. According to Manorama Online, he breathed his last at an old age home in Kakkanad on Sunday. He was undergoing treatment for a stroke.

The last film George directed was Elavamkodu Desam (1998). His most well-known films include Ulkkadal (1979), Mela (1980), Yavanika (1982), Lekhayude Maranam Oru Flashback (1983), Adaminte Vaariyellu (1983), Panchavadi Palam (1984), Irakal (1986), and Mattoral ( 1988). He is a recipient of 9 Kerala State Film Awards.

Kulakkattil Geevarghese George was born on May 24, 1945 in Thiruvalla, the eldest son of Samuel and Annamma. He completed his primary education from Tiruvalla SD School. After graduating in political science from NSS College, Changanassery, he completed a course in film direction from the Film and Television Institute India (FTII). Pune. He entered the film industry as an assistant to noted director Ramu Kariat.
