India’s young opener Shubman Gill is in great form these days. Shubman scored 178 runs in the first two matches of the three-match ODI series against Australia. He scored 74 runs in Mohali and 104 runs in Indore. Despite Gill’s brilliant performance in the two matches, former Indian opener batsman Virender Sehwag is not happy. He is expecting big scores from him. For this, Sehwag also cited age.
Despite the record performance in Indore, Sehwag was unhappy that Gill was not able to take advantage of his form and missed out on big scores. He told that it is easier to score big runs at a young age. At this age the body recovers quickly and also allows players to field despite big innings. As age increases this task becomes difficult.
Can play big innings at this age: Sehwag
Talking about Gill’s century, Sehwag said in an event, “He missed it last time but this time he scored his century. However, I would still say that with the form he is in, he should score 160 or 180.” He was only 25 years old. Even if he had scored 200 runs today and got tired, he could have still fielded. At the age of 30, it would have been difficult because he would not have been able to recover from it. So it is better to score big runs now. ”
Gill could have completed second double century
Sehwag further said that when Gill was out, there were still a lot of overs left. If he had stayed for a little longer, he could have completed his second double century. Sehwag had scored 219 runs against West Indies on the same ground in 2011. Along with his innings, he also mentioned Rohit Sharma’s record of three double centuries. He emphasized that the Indore track gives batsmen a chance to play big innings. Sehwag said, “When you are in form and scoring runs, don’t throw away your wicket. There were 18 overs left when he was out. If he had played 9-10 more overs, he could have completed his second double century.
