Samsung Galaxy S23 FE could make things a lot harder for Pixel 8

Google will be the last brand to launch its flagship smartphones for this year. The company is launching the Pixel 8 and the Pixel 8 Pro early next month, with some attractive features. While the Pixel 8 Pro looks great for its $899 price tag, the Pixel 8 could face some heavy competition, mostly from Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy S23 FE.

According to several leaks, the Pixel 8 will carry a price tag of $699. That’s a $100 price jump compared to the Pixel 7, as the newer phone is bringing several upgrades, including a 120Hz screen with 2,000 nits peak brightness and a newer processor. While the Pixel 8 is getting pricier than its predecessor, the Galaxy S23 FE could be cheaper than its predecessor. According to a new leak, the Galaxy S23 FE could cost just $599 in the US, which is a $100 price cut compared to the launch price of the Galaxy S21 FE.

If the information is correct, the Galaxy S23 FE could appear more attractive to a lot of users. At $599, the Galaxy S23 FE offers a slightly bigger screen (6.4-inch), a similar powerful processor (Exynos 2200 or Snapdragon 8 Gen 1), and, more importantly, a dedicated 8MP telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom. Both phones have 50MP primary rear cameras, 12MP ultrawide cameras, and 10MP front-facing cameras. Yes, the Pixel 8 has a brighter screen and faster connectivity, but those features might not influence people as much as the Galaxy S23 FE’s lower price tag.

Moreover, the Galaxy S23 FE will be launched in more countries worldwide compared to the Pixel 8. Combine that with Samsung’s vast after-sales service network, and the Pixel 8 might have a hard time attracting buyers. Samsung is also known to offer some excellent pre-order deals and offers with its phones. The only area where consumers could prefer the Pixel 8 despite its higher price tag could be the promise of seven years of software support as opposed to Galaxy S23 FE’s five years of software support.
