2024 Pan-India Films: Strong vs. Weak?

2024 Pan-India Films: Strong vs. Weak? After rocking 2021 and 2022, Tollywood underperformed in 2023 in terms of pan-India films. But 2024 will turn out to be a year of pan-India releases from the Telugu film industry.

We have over a dozen projects claiming to be pan-India films, but we can easily categorize them into two groups: strong and weak. While there may be surprises in the weaker category, they currently don’t appear to be strong pan-India films.

Starting with Prashant Varma’s mythological fantasy film Hanuman in January. The film has surprisingly garnered good hype among the Hindi belt and the North Indian trade is seeing it as another Karthikeya 2 or Kantara. Director Prashanth Varma has a phenomenal task ahead to live up to this expectation.

Allu Arjun’s highly anticipated ‘Pushpa 2,’ NTR’s ambitious project ‘Devara,’ Ram Charan-Shankar’s ‘Game Changer,’ and Prabhas’s ‘Kalki’ all have the potential to become pan-India films next year, thanks to the combinations and budgets involved in these projects.

Venkatesh’s Saindhav, Puri Jagannadh’s Double Smart, Nikhil’s Swayambhu, Goodachaari 2, Naga Chaitanya’s next with Sai Pallavi, VD12, Prabhas’ next with Maruthi, Pawan Kalyan’s OG and Hari Hara Veera Mallu fall into weaker pan-India group.

Nikhil’s ‘Swayambhu’ and Adivi Sesh’s ‘Goodachari 2’ have potential, but they face a significant challenge in penetrating the pan-India market.
