Ashwin Dani of Asian Paints dies at 81


Asian Paints Co-founder and Non-executive Director Ashwin Dani passed away at the age of 81. Dani joined the company, now among Asia’s biggest paint companies, in 1968. The company was established by his father and three others in 1942.

Dani’s son, Malav, is also a member of the company’s board.

According to Forbes, Dani’s net worth as of 2023 is $7.1 billion.

Last year, Asian Paints board approved the appointment of Deepak Satwalekar as Chairman of the Board, saying Ashwin Dani shall continue to be on the board of directors of the company as a non-executive/promoter director.

Asian Paints expanded its operations globally under the leadership of Ashwin Dani, following which the company became one of the leading paint companies in the world. The company also offers home painting services and an interior design service.

Shares of Asian Paints Ltd plunged more than 4 percent in trade Thursday (September 28). At 2:36 pm, the scrip was trading 4.23 percent lower at Rs 3,162.10 apiece on the NSE.
