Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai, Mahindra and Toyota have reported an impressive year-on-year sales growth in September 2023, while Tata Motors reported a 6% decline.
Auto manufacturer have released their sales figures for the month of September 2023. Most of the automakers, except for Tata Motors have posted positive sales growth. While Maruti and Hyundai retain their 1st and 2nd position, a close fight can be seen for 3rd position between the Tata Motors and Mahindra.
Maruti Suzuki Sales September 2023
Maruti Suzuki has posted a positive YoY sales growth for the month of September 2023. In the domestic passenger vehicle market, MSIL has sold 150,812 units in Sept 2023 as against 148,380 units in the same month last year. The company has also dispatched 2,294 units of the Light Commercial Vehicle, Super Carry last month.
Sales to OEM partner stood at 5,726 units, while the total exports for the month of September 2023 stands at 22,511 units. The company’s total sales (Domestic + Export) stood at 181,343 in September 2023 as against 176303 units in the same month last year.
MSIL sold 10,351 units of the Alto & S-Presso last month, which is significantly lower compared to the same month last year (29,574 units). In the compact segment, MSIL sold 68,552 vehicles (Baleno, Celerio, Dzire, Ignis, Swift, Tour S and WagonR) in Septmber 2023 as against 72,176 units in the same month last year. The company has also delivered 1,491 units amd 11,147 units of the Ciaz sedan and Eeco Van last month, respectively.
Maruti’s utility vehicles sales have increased considerably, as it sold 59,271 units in the UV segment last month as compared to 32,574 units in the September 2022. Maruti Suzuki is currently selling the Brezza, Ertiga, Fronx, Grand Vitara, Invicto, Jimny, S-Cross and XL6 in the utility vehicle segment (SUV + MPV).
Hyundai Sales September
Hyundai Motor India has registered its highest ever total sales of 71,641 units in September 2023, reporting a Year-on-Year sales growth of 13.5 per cent. The company has sold 54,241 units in the domestic market in September 2023, reporting a YoY sales growth of 9.13 per cent. The company had sold 49,700 vehicles in the same month last year. The brand’s export has increased by around 29 per cent from 13,501 units to 17,400 units in September 2023.
The company claims that the newly launched Exter has received positive response from buyers. SUVs now contribute to more than 65 per cent of Hyundai’s domestic sales. The company is currently selling the Exter, Venue, Creta, Alcazar and the Tucson in the SUV category.
Tarun Garg, COO, Hyundai Motor India, said, “In September 2023, HMIL achieved its highest ever total monthly sales since inception marking a key milestone in the brand’s history. The ongoing festive season has resulted in a strong sales momentum, helping us achieve more than 9% growth YoY in domestic sales in September 2023.”
Tata Sales September
After positing positive sales for the last couple of years, Tata Motors witnessed a dip in its sales in the month of September 2023. The company sold 44,809 units in the domestic market in September 2023 as against 47,654 in the same month last year. The brand’s passenger vehicle sales reported a YoY decline of 6 per cent.
Mr. Shailesh Chandra, Managing Director, Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Ltd. and Tata Passenger Electric Mobility Ltd. said, “Passenger vehicle sales remained strong in Q2 FY24 driven by new launches and pre-festive offtakes. Tata Motors posted quarterly sales of 1,38,939 cars and SUVs in Q2 FY24, ~2.7% below our highest ever quarter, Q2 FY23. Our EV business continues its strong momentum and has posted growth of about 55% year-on-year. In Q2 FY24, we extended our innovative twin-cylinder CNG offering to Tiago, Tigor and Punch, which have been received well by the market. This quarter also saw the launch of the new generation Nexon and Nexon.ev, which have received an overwhelming market response. We had proactively reduced supplies of the outgoing models this quarter to enable a smooth transition to the new generation models. Going forward, with deliveries commencing of our exciting new generation products, we expect stepped up volumes in this festive season and beyond.“
Mahindra Sales September
Mahindra & Mahindra, the homegrown automaker has managed to increase its production capacity to meet the rising demand for its latest breed of SUVs including the Scorpio-N, XUV700 and the Scorpio Classic. This is clearly visible in the brand’s steady rise in domestic sales, and threatning the Tata’s 3rd position in the list of top car manufacturers in India.
Mahindra has reported total UV sales of 41,267 units in the month of September 2023, reporting a year-on-year sales increase of 20 per cent. The company had sold 34,262 units in the same month last year. YTD FY24 sales also reported a massive growth of 27 per cent. The company has sold 214,914 vehicles till September 2023 in FY24 as against 168,723 units in the same period FY23.
Toyota Sales September
Toyota Kirloskar Motor has reported a massive Year-on-Year sales growth of 53 per cent in the month of September 2023. The company’s MoM sales have also increased by 3 per cent. The company sold 22,168 vehicles in the domestic market and exported 1,422 units last month. In the month of August 2023, Toyota had registered sales of 22,918 units (Domestic + Export).
