When TDP President Chandrababu was arrested on September 9th, BRS leader KT Rama Rao’s tweet turned controversial. Without explicitly mentioning CBN’s arrest, KTR tweeted that he couldn’t stop laughing since September 10th. Everyone knew that his tweet referred to CBN. The agitation started at WIPRO Circle against CBN’s illegal detention, serving as the trigger for protests worldwide.
IT employees began arriving one after another in the surroundings of Hyderabad to express their solidarity with CBN. Two days ago, KTR addressed the press and ordered people not to engage in any agitations in Hyderabad, suggesting they do so in Rajahmundry with sarcasm.
BRS feared these agitations lately, even though the presence of the Telugu Desam Party in Telangana is nominal. However, after Chandrababu’s arrest, there was sympathy for him in Telangana. Not only those with Andhra roots but also Telangana natives sympathized with Chandrababu. Telangana society was also in awe of Chandrababu’s imprisonment at the age of 73.
Ministers representing areas with people of Andhra origin and legislators from the ruling party openly expressed their solidarity with Chandrababu. Minister KTR had to change his tone when he announced that he wouldn’t allow rallies in Hyderabad in support of Chandrababu.
KTR, who unveiled the statue of NTR in Khammam on Saturday, attempted to correct the mistake. Another Minister, Harish Rao, also condemned CBN’s arrest in a public meeting yesterday. People from both states strongly believed that Jagan Reddy arrested Chandrababu with the cooperation and approval of central elders.
This was also one of the reasons why the BJP remained weak in Telangana. The Congress party gained strength in Telangana due to the BJP’s attitude. This development became a headache for the ruling Bharatiya Rashtra Samithi.
BRS leaders remained confident that they would comfortably win the three-way contest. Now that the situation has changed, both KTR and Harish Rao have focused on measures to prevent losses related to CBN’s arrest. In 2018, Chandrababu played a role in BRS’s return to power. If there is a loss in the upcoming elections, Chandrababu’s arrest will also be a contributing factor.
