Upcoming All-New SUVs From Toyota

Toyota Kirloskar India is on a mission to broaden its product range and boost production capacity in the coming years. The company recently confirmed plans to establish a third manufacturing facility with an initial capacity of 80,000 to 120,000 units annually, eventually ramping it up to around 200,000 units per year. This expansion is in response to the surging domestic sales. Currently, Toyota manufactures 400,000 units, and this figure will see a 30 percent increase with the introduction of the new facility.

Toyota, the Japanese automaker, has an exciting lineup of three major all-new SUVs planned for the Indian market. These include a mid-size SUV (known by its codename – 340D), a 7-seater SUV based on the Corolla Cross platform, and a potential “mini” Land Cruiser (though not officially confirmed yet). In addition to these models, there will also be a new-generation Fortuner featuring modern technology, enhanced design, and a mild hybrid powertrain.

Toyota’s third manufacturing plant will serve as the primary production hub for the upcoming mid-size SUV, set to make its debut in early 2026. This model will be built on the new TNGA platform and will bridge the gap in Toyota’s product lineup between the Urban Cruiser Hyryder and the Innova Hycross.

The forthcoming three-row Toyota SUV will share its platform, components, and powertrains with the Innova Hycross. It will boast a 2,640mm long wheelbase and may offer flat-fold third-row seats along with an electrically operated tailgate. The powertrain options for the Toyota Corolla Cross-based SUV are expected to include a 2.0L petrol engine and a robust 2.0L hybrid unit, the latter capable of producing 184bhp and 206Nm of torque.

As for the Toyota Land Cruiser Mini SUV, it appears to be in its final stages of development and could make its debut in early 2024. The production-ready version is slated to go on sale in global markets by mid-2024. This off-road SUV will feature rugged styling and will be built on the GA-F platform, drawing design inspiration from the Land Cruiser Prado. There’s even speculation that the Land Cruiser Mini might find its way into ASEAN markets.
