The Indian men’s and women’s teams registered easy wins over their rivals in the third round of the chess event at the Asian Games here on Sunday. The top-seeded men’s team comprising Grandmaster D Gukesh, R Praggnananda, Arjun Erigey and P Harikrishna defeated Kazakhstan 3-1. The second seeded women’s team defeated fourth seeded Indonesia 3-5 – 0.5 and achieved its third win.

Gukesh defeated GM Rinat Zumbaev and Praggnananda defeated GM Alisher Suleymanov while playing with black pieces, while Harikrishna played against IM Nogarbek Kazaybek and Erigesy played a draw against IM Ramzan Zhalamakhanov. In the women’s team, Koneru Humpy, D Harika and Vantika Agarwal won their games, while R Vaishali played a draw.

Trap team won gold with a record performance of 361 in qualification.

The Indian trio of Prithviraj Todaiman (119), Kainan Chenai (122) and Zorawar Singh Sandhu (120) won the team gold medal in the trap shooting event. The Indian men’s team scored an Asian Games record by scoring 361 points in the qualification round. Kuwait’s team of Khalid Almudahaf, Talal Alrashidi and Abdulrahman Alfaihan won the silver medal with a score of 359, while China’s team of Yuhao Guo, Yinke Qi and Yuhao Wang won the bronze medal with 354 points.

The women’s trap team of Manisha Keer, Preeti Razak and Rajeshwari Kumari was also successful in winning the silver medal. The Indian women’s team won the silver medal by scoring 337 points. China’s team of Qingnian Li, Suisui Wu and Xinqiu Zheng won the gold medal with a world record 357 points.

The Kazakhstan team of Maria Dmitrienko, Ezhan Dosamgambetova and Anastasia Prilepina (336) won the bronze medal. In the men’s category, Chenai (122) and Zorawar Singh Sandhu (120) were successful in making it to the individual finals. Manish of the women’s category made it to the finals through a shoot-off after a tie with three other shooters.
