Paris Saint-Germain have made it clear that Xavi Simons is a huge part of their future despite widespread interest in his services, sources have confirmed to 90min.
PSG brought the Netherlands international back to the club from PSV Eindhoven during the summer transfer window – a decision which the 20-year-old himself sanctioned.
Following his return to Paris, Simons was sent on loan to German side RB Leipzig. He has shone so far this season and has been one of the standout players in the Bundesliga, scoring three goals and adding four assists in six games thus far.
Prior to his return to PSG, 90min understands that Manchester City and Barcelona – where Simons spent time as a youth player – had been keeping a watching brief on his form and situation.
However, 90min understands that PSG have underlined to Simons and any potential suitors that he is a huge part of their future.
Sources have confirmed to 90min that PSG are delighted with, but not shocked by, Simons’ form at Leipzig. It was always part of their plan for him not just to play regular league football but also taste Champions League football.
90min understands Leipzig have already made tentative enquiries about him staying beyond his current season-long spell, but they have been told that is hugely unlikely. If all goes according to plan, Simons will be back in Paris next summer.
Simons played 11 times for PSG’s senior team across the 2020/21 and 2021/22 seasons prior to last year’s move to PSV, where he grabbed 22 goals and 12 assists in 48 games.
