7 dead, 51 injured as fire breaks out at building in Mumbai’s Goregaon | Mumbai News

Seven people, including two minors, were killed and 51 injured in a blaze at a seven-storey building in Mumbai’s Goregaon West early on Friday.

The blaze was reported at 3.05 am on Friday at the Jay Bhavani building near Azad Maidan in Goregaon West. The six killed included a man, three women and two minor girls.

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) officials said the fire was confined to the shops on the ground floor, scrap materials and several vehicles parked in the vicinity. It could be extinguished after over three hours, around 6.45 am.

Fifteen of the injured have been taken to the Cooper Hospital — the condition of two are critical — while 25 have been taken to Hinduhridaysamrat Balasaheb Thackeray Medical College (HBT) hospital.

In a bid to douse the flames, the Mumbai Fire Brigade (MFB) used eight fire engines, five jumbo tankers, a water tank, a turntable ladder (TTL) and a quick reaction vehicle to assist in the relief process.

Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis condoled the deaths and promised all assistance towards the relief and rescue process.

“Pained to know about loss of lives in the fire incident at #Goregaon, Mumbai. We are in touch with BMC & Mumbai Police officials & all the assistance is being provided. My deepest condolences to the families who lost their loved ones and wishing speedy recovery to the injured ones,” he wrote on X, previously known as Twitter.
