Shubman Gill: India vs Australia: Shubman Gill doubtful for India’s clash against Australia in World Cup opener | Cricket News

NEW DELHI: The Indian cricket team‘s preparations for their highly anticipated World Cup opener against Australia have been marred by uncertainty surrounding the fitness of the prolific batsman Shubman Gill. Gill’s stellar form in recent ODIs has made him a key asset for India, but he is now a doubtful starter for Sunday’s match due to health issues, possibly related to dengue fever.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has not officially confirmed the nature of Gill’s illness, but the situation is being closely monitored.
According to a medical update from the BCCI, “He’s under the weather, the medical team is closely monitoring him. We are hoping he gets better soon. We will have to wait for more updates from the medical team.”

Gill’s health issues have been a cause for concern since his arrival in Chennai, where the team is based. The source of concern is his persistent high fever, which has raised suspicions of dengue. To determine the exact nature of his illness, Gill is scheduled to undergo tests for dengue on Friday.
A source within the BCCI, requesting anonymity, stated, “Shubman has had high fever since landing in Chennai. His tests are being done. He will have tests on Friday, and a call will be taken on his participation in the opening game.”
If the tests confirm dengue, Gill could potentially miss not only the game against Australia but also subsequent matches. Typically, recovery from dengue takes approximately 7-10 days, but a more extended absence may be required if there is a significant drop in his platelet count.

Doubt

While it seems increasingly likely that Gill won’t be available to face Australia, there are growing concerns that he might also sit out matches against Afghanistan on October 11 and Pakistan on October 14 if his recovery takes longer. The final decision will be made by the medical team. The source emphasised, “Let’s not jump the gun. If it’s a normal viral feverhe could play on antibiotics, but it’s completely the medical team’s call.”
Shubman Gill, who has amassed an impressive 1,200 runs this season, has been an integral part of India’s batting lineup. His potential absence could pose a significant challenge for the team as they kick off their World Cup campaign against formidable opponents.

Will the ODI World Cup set Shubman Gill on the path to greatness?
