Assembly Elections in India 2023 Schedule Live Updates: The BJP on Monday announced a slew of candidates for the upcoming assembly elections in the states of Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Rajasthan. The party released a list of 57 candidates in Madhya Pradesh. While, CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan will be contesting from Budhni, State’s Home Minister Narottam Mishra will contest from Datia. In Chhattisgarh, 64 candidates were announced in the party’s second list. While former Chhattisgarh CM Raman Singh will be contesting from Rajnandgaon, MP Renuka Singh will contest from Bharatpur-Sonha, and Gomati Sai will contest from Pathalgaon. Lastly, in Rajasthan BJP released its first list of 41 candidates. Diya Kumari would be contesting from Vidhyadhar Nagar, Santosh Meghwal from Sujangarh, Shravan Choudhary from Fatehpur and Rajyavadhan Singh Rathore from Jothwara.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi today said that the Congress Working Committee unanimously supports the idea of having a caste census in the country. “There is a very big decision taken today by the CWC today. Unanimously the CWC has taken the decision to support the idea of a caste census in the country, and it is a progressive and powerful step for the emancipation of poor people in the country,” he said. “We will force the BJP to carry out the caste census or get out of the way for us to carry out the census,” he said. On the question of the INDIA alliance’s view regarding the same, he said, “Most parties in the INDIA alliance are unanimous in having a caste census. But if somebody has a slightly different opinion then it’s no problem. A vast majority of the INDIA alliance is going to push the idea of a caste census.”

The Election Commission of India (ECI) announced today the schedule for Legislative Assembly Elections in five states in the coming weeks: Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Mizoram, Rajasthan and Telangana. The elections will begin on November 7 on Chhattisgarh and Mizoram. Chhattisgarh will go to the polls in two phases– first on November 7 and then on November 17. Polling in Madhya Pradesh will take place on November 17. Rajasthan and Telangana will go to polls on November 23 and 30 respectively. Counting for all states will take place on December 3.
