When it comes to the question of the largest Hindu temple in the world, most of you might have guessed it correctly – Angkor Wat temple in Cambodia. However, do you know that Angkor Wat temple was converted into a Buddhist place and is therefore no longer the largest Hindu temple in the world? A new Akshardham temple was recently built in New Jersey, USA, making it the largest modern Hindu temple outside of India and the USA.
The beautiful temple is dedicated to Swami Narayan, and its construction began in 2015. The temple is spread over more than 185 acres and it took the efforts of 12,500 people to finish this gigantic structure. The temple is designed with one main shrine, 12 sub-shrines, and 9 shikhars. The overall design of the temple is similar to that of Akshardham in Delhi, but the size is much larger.
The temple also comprises a Brahma Kund, a sacred pond, and it was made by BAPS Swaminarayan Sanstha, which has already constructed more than 1400 temples across countries like India, the US, Canada, Kenya, and many more. Check out these mesmerizing pictures of this newly constructed building.
