Microsoft Xbox Series S Starter Bundle announced as Sony turns heads with new PS5

Last updated: October 13th, 2023 at 18:06 UTC+02:00

Sony is getting all the limelight right now in the console wars thanks to its announcement of the new slimmer, smaller, yet still-as-powerful-as-the-original PlayStation 5. Microsoft doesn’t have an Xbox refresh coming anytime soon so it will probably continue to see Xbox sales lagging behind the PS5, but the Redmond-based company is trying to push some Xbox Series S units with a new starter bundle.

The starter bundle costs $299.99

Microsoft has announced an Xbox Series S Starter Bundle that will go on sale at the end of October for $299.99. That’s the price that one usually has to pay for just the Xbox Series S, but with the starter bundle Microsoft is throwing in three months of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, which usually costs around $50, for free.

Once gamers who bought the starter bundle activate their free Game Pass membership, they will have three months to cancel the subscription, failing which the subscription will continue at the standard price.

The starter bundle gets you the 512GB version of the Xbox Series S; you can expand storage by purchasing the Seagate Expansion Card for Xbox Series X|S or an external USB drive, though the latter will be considerably slower and will lock you out of games that require the Xbox Series X/S’ internal NVMe drive for the best performance.

The Xbox Series S Starter Bundle can be purchased from the Microsoft Store.
