Triumph Scrambler 400 X Vs Royal Enfield Scram 411

In the sub-500cc segment, we have witnessed several launches in the country in recent times. While Bajaj-Triumph JV had introduced the Speed 400, Hero-Harley launched the HD X440. Bajaj has recently launched the new Triumph Scrambler 400 Xwhich directly rivals the Royal Enfield Scram 411. We have already tested the Scrambler 400 X and here is the first ride review

– The Triumph Scrambler 400 X is priced at Rs 2.63 lakh, while the RE Scram 411 is tagged at Rs 2.16 lakh.

– The Triumph Scrambler 400 X is powered by the same liquid-cooled 398cc, single-cylinder, DOHC engine that produces 40PS at 8000rpm and 39.5Nm at 6500rpm. The engine is paired to a 6-speed gearbox.

– Powering the new Royal Enfield Scram 411 is a 411cc, single-cylinder, air-cooled, SOHC engine that powers the current Himalayan. Coupled to a 5-speed gearbox, the powertrain is good for 24.31PS at 6500rpm and 32Nm of torque at 4250rpm.

– The Triumph’s 398cc engine has a power & torque advantage over the Scram 411. The motorcycle is designed to offer more performance oriented experience to buyers. Moreover, the Triumph’s powertrain comes with liquid-cooling technology which helps in reducing engine heat compared to the Scram 411’s air-oil-cooled engine.

– The Triumph Scrambler 400 X has a wheelbase of 1,418mm, while the Scram 411 has the longest wheelbase of 1,455mm in the segment. The Scrambler 400 X has a ground clearance of 195mm and offers a fuel tank of 13L capacity. It weighs 179kgs, which is 6kg lighter than the Scram 411. The Royal Enfield bike has a fuel tank of 15L and a ground clearance of 200mm.

– The Triumph Scrambler 400 X has a seat height of 835mm, while the Scram 411 has a seat height of 795mm which is more accessible to average Indian buyer. Both bikes feature 19-inch front and 17-inch rear wheels; however, the Triumph 400 X gets 140/80 section rear tyre as against 120/90 section tyre in the Scram 411.

– For braking, the Scrambler 400 X gets 320mm front brake and 230mm rear brake. The Scram 411 gets 300mm front and 240mm rear disc. The former has 43mm USD front fork with 150mm travel and pre-load adjustable gas-charged monoshock at the rear with 150mm travel. The RE Scram 411 comes with 41mm telescopic front fork with 190mm travel and monoshock with linkage with 180mm travel in the rear.

– In terms of features, the Triumph Scrambler 400 X gets LED headlight with DRLs, LED tail-light, C-type USB charging socket, semi-digital instrument panel, switchable ABS, switchable traction control, ride-by-wire technology and assist clutch.

RE Scram 411 Review

– The Scram 411 gets halogen headlight and tail-light, optional Bluetooth connectivity & navigation and DRLs. This variant misses out features like USB charging socket, switchable ABS, switchable traction control, ride-by-wire technology and assist clutch.
