The all-new 1.5L TGDi turbo petrol engine will likely make its debut in the Curvv before appearing under the hood of the Harrier and Safari

Tata Motors is planning to bring in a number of new products over the next 12 months or so in the Indian market. The homegrown manufacturer has been busy updating its lineup in recent months as the launch of the Nexon and Nexon EV facelifts were followed by the updated Harrier and Safari and all these models received big revisions inside and out.

We already know that Tata is currently working on the electric version of the Punch micro SUV and it will be introduced in the coming months. It will become the first Tata passenger EV to feature a charging port positioned on the front fender. Additionally, Tata will launch the Curvv EV next year before the arrival of its IC-engined version.

The Tata Harrier EV was showcased in its near-production form at the 2023 Auto Expo earlier this year and it will likely be launched next year as well. Shailesh Chandra, Managing Director, Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Ltd. and Tata Passenger Electric Mobility confirmed in a recent interview that all three upcoming EVs will have claimed driving range of more than 500 km on a single charge.

At the Auto Expo, Tata also debuted the brand new 1.5L four-cylinder direct injection turbocharged petrol engine. With gasoline SUVs occupying a significant market share, Tata does not want to be left behind and will likely launch it first in the upcoming Curvv midsize SUV before its debut in the Harrier and its three-row sibling, Safari.

Before the arrival of the petrol-spec Harrier, Tata could expand its lineup with the introduction of the Harrier EV. The Curvv ICE will likely be around 4.3 metres in length and thus it could act as a direct rival to the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder, VW Taigun, Skoda Kushaq, MG Astor and others.

Besides an array of EVs, Tata also has the Sierra in the pipeline and its IC-engined version could be equipped with the aforementioned petrol engine as well.
