WhatsApp is the most popular instant messaging platform in the world, and it has been adding more features to its arsenal over the past couple of years. After making it easier to switch devices and use the same account from different devices, the company seems to be working on more security and privacy features, including the one that enhances locked chat threads.
WhatsApp to hide locked chat threads from unauthorized people
According to a new report from WABetaInfo, WhatsApp is working on a new feature that lets users hide locked chat threads. This is an extremely useful feature to have, as unauthorized people can no longer see if you have any locked chat threads, and that improves the privacy of your communications. The ability to lock chat threads arrived a couple of years ago, and users also have the ability to chat the entire WhatsApp app on Android and iOS.
WhatsApp competes with iMessage, Facebook Messenger, Instagram, Signal, and Telegram, but it has more features than all of them except for Telegram. In terms of privacy and security, WhatsApp offers end-to-end encryption for all one-to-one chats and group chats. It allows users to set a password to open the app and even lock individual chat threads.
Meta, which owns WhatsApp, has been adding several new features over the past couple of years. Recently, it showcased that it is bringing Meta AI to WhatsApp, allowing people to interact with a digital assistant. It also announced Generative AI-powered stickers for all its apps, including Facebook Messenger, Instagram, and WhatsApp.
