4th-gen Maruti Suzuki Swift has refreshed exteriors, all while retaining the core silhouette

With its sporty MINI-inspired profile, Maruti Suzuki Swift has been a popular choice across several global markets. Swift is currently in its 3rd generation which was launched globally in 2017. The journey continues with the 4th gen Swift with a comprehensive range of updates.

Maruti Suzuki 4th Gen Swift Debuts – key highlights

Suzuki has retained the core characteristics of Swift. Despite calling it a concept, the car looks production-ready. There are cosmetic touch-ups. But these are essentially to achieve a distinct identity for the 4th-gen model. It does not necessarily make the new version significantly better than the outgoing model.

At the front, 4th-gen Maruti Swift gets new headlamps and DRLs, a refreshed front grille with a more rugged mesh pattern, new fog lamps and a sportier-looking bumper. The clamshell bonnet design has been updated to achieve a muscular stance. Door panels have been updated and there’s a new set of alloy wheels. The fender design and ORVMs are largely the same as earlier.

One of the key updates is standard rear door handles, as compared to the C-pillar mounted rear door handles seen with the current model. Shape and size of the windows and pillars are the same as earlier. At the rear, new Swift gets refreshed tail lamps, bumper and boot lid. Positioning of the reflectors has also been changed. The roof-mounted spoiler gets extended wings towards the edges.

Changes continue on the inside, where new Swift gets an updated cockpit. One of the key highlights is a new 9-inch free-standing touchscreen infotainment system. The existing model is equipped with a 7-inch touchscreen. Design of the air vents and their positioning has been changed. The dashboard gets a new colour theme. There’s a HUD unit as well. But the cockpit area still looks quite cluttered. There appears to be no focus on enhancing the sense of roominess inside the cabin.

New Maruti Swift specs, performance

Dimensionally, 4th-gen Maruti Swift will be the same as earlier. The current model is 3,845 mm long, 1,735 mm wide, 1,530 mm tall and has a wheelbase of 2,450 mm. However, the new model may vary dimensionally with new bumpers and body, while still based on Heartect platform. We wish 4th gen Swift gets better crash ratings in Bharat NCAP as current Swift received a 1-star rating in 2022 by Global NCAP.

Across select international markets, Swift could get an engine upgrade. For example, a 1.4L K14B petrol engine with a 48V strong hybrid architecture could be used. In India, new Swift will likely continue with the existing 1.2-litre K Series Dual Jet, Dual VVT engine. It generates 90 PS of max power and 113 Nm of peak torque. Transmission choices include 5MT and 5AMT.

There are rumours of a new 3-cylinder 1.2L strong hybrid petrol mill codenamed Z12E. Magic number of this powertrain is up to 40 km/l fuel efficiency, probably in test conditions. Will it debut with 4th gen Swift at launch maybe next year? Or will it debut at a later date? Only time will tell.
