A trustee has been removed from the board of Yorkshire Country Cricket Club’s charitable arm over “abusive and discriminatory” social media posts.
Yorkshire Cricket Foundation (YCF) called an emergency meeting on Wednesday after being informed.
Foundation chair Baroness Tanni Grey-Thompson said the posts were “concerning”.
“It was agreed by all that the language used was both discriminatory and abusive in nature,” she added.
“Across Yorkshire Cricket, our mission is to provide a welcoming and inclusive environment for everyone – discrimination of any kind cannot be tolerated.
“During the meeting, the board voted to remove the trustee from their position with immediate effect. As such, this individual is no longer associated with YCF or the wider Yorkshire Cricket family.
“I apologise on behalf of the YCF for any offence caused by these unacceptable posts.”
The person was not named.
Yorkshire County Cricket Club chief executive officer, Stephen Vaughan, said: “We are aware of the unacceptable social posts made by a trustee of the Yorkshire Cricket Foundation.
“Discrimination has no place in our game, and we are pleased that the YCF board, as fellow members of the Yorkshire Cricket family, acted quickly in removing this individual from their position with immediate effect.”
In July the county were docked points and fined after a disciplinary panel found it had “allowed racist and discriminatory behaviour to go unchallenged”.
However, Yorkshire said the Cricket Discipline Commission (CDC) had “acknowledged the vast amount of work done by YCCC to overcome the cultural issues that existed within the club”.
