Lucknow (Aug. 29): Rohit Sharma-led team India, which is advancing by recording 5 consecutive victories in the 2023 ICC ODI World Cup tournament, suffered an early shock against England. By the end of 12 overs, Team India was in trouble as they lost three top order batsmen to score only 40 runs.

Team India lost the toss and batted first but failed to get off to a good start. Opening batsman Shubman Gill, who came in with dreams of a big innings, was clean bowled off the bowling of Chris Woakes for just 9 runs.

There were a lot of expectations on the former captain Virat Kohli, who is the highest run-scorer in this edition of the ODI World Cup tournament. But before Virat Kohli opened his account for the first time in the ODI World Cup tournament, David Willey caught Ben Stokes and entered the pavilion.

Shreyas Iyer, who was creased after the fall of Virat Kohli’s wicket, belied the hope that he could play a responsible game at number 4. Shreyas Iyer was the second victim of Chris Woakes after facing just 4 runs off 16 balls. By this, Team India lost 3 wickets before scoring 40 runs and became worried.

Currently, by the end of 15 overs, Team India has scored 50 runs by losing 3 wickets, captain Rohit Sharma has scored 33 runs and wicket keeper batsman KL Rahul has maintained the crease by scoring 5 runs. Team India’s batting score is likely to be decided on the partnership of this pair.

Earlier, England captain Jos Buttler won the toss and decided to bowl first. Both teams entered the fray without any changes.

Here is the list of players of both the teams

India: Rohit Sharma (captain), Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul, Suryakumar Yadav, Ravindra Jadeja, Kuldeep Yadav, Mohammad Shami, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammad Siraj.

England: Jonny Bairstow, David Malan, Joe Root, Ben Stokes, Jos Buttler (captain), Harry Brook, Liam Livingstone, Chris Woakes, David Willey, Atkinson, Rashid Khan.
