New Citroen Model Under Testing In India – Is It C3X?

Citroen, the renowned French automaker, has already established a presence in India with a lineup that includes four models: the C5 Aircross premium SUV, C3 Aircross mid-size SUVC3 hatchback, and the eC3 electric hatchback. However, recent sightings of a heavily camouflaged vehicle suggest that the company is gearing up to introduce a new product to its Indian portfolio.

According to reports, Citroen is set to venture into the sedan segment with the C3X. While an official launch date has not been confirmed, it is anticipated to hit Indian roads sometime in 2024. The Citroen C3X is expected to feature crossover-like styling and a high seating position, adding an exciting new dimension to the brand’s offerings in the country.

The test mule, recently spotted, appears to be an entry-level trim, equipped with halogen headlamps and 16-inch steel wheels. Notable design elements include LED daytime running lights (DRLs), front fender-mounted indicators, a license plate integrated into the rear bumper, and new LED taillamp clusters. Some reports suggest that the C3X may draw design inspiration from the C3 hatchback and the globally sold C4X.

In terms of features, the upcoming Citroen C3X is expected to offer a 10.2-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless smartphone connectivity, a front armrest, a tilt-adjustable steering wheel, remote keyless entry, rear parking sensors, a tire pressure monitoring system, a reverse parking camera, dual airbags, and an anti-lock braking system (ABS) with electronic brakeforce distribution (EBD).

Built on the CMP modular platform, the C3X is likely to share its engine with the C3 hatchback. This crossover-style sedan is expected to be powered by a 1.0L turbo petrol engine producing 109bhp and 190Nm of torque. Two transmission options are anticipated, including a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque converter automatic.

In other developments, Citroen India has ambitious plans to establish a total of 150 outlets by the end of 2024. Despite a relatively small market share, the automaker retailed around 9,000 units in the 2022-23 fiscal year. With its early entry into the electric vehicle (EV) space through models like the eC3 hatchback and the upcoming electric C3 Aircross, Citroen is poised to make a more significant impact in the domestic EV segment compared to the traditional internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicle market.
