Tamil Nadu Health Minister Ma Subramanian Sunday inaugurated the state government’s programme to conduct 10,000 special medical camps for 10 weeks, amid rise in diseases due to monsoon.
Addressing the event at MGR Nagar market area in Kodambakkam, ChennaiSubramanian said that as of now, two meetings have been held to discuss the preventive measures to control dengue, amid an uptick in cases. These meetings have been held under the directions of Chief Minister M K Stalin, and under the chairmanship of the Chief Secretary.

“During the north east monsoon, rain-related diseases like dengue, malaria, chikungunya, and diarrhea tend to affect people. The Health department alongside local bodies have been continuously running awareness campaigns. At all district headquarters hospitals and medical college hospitals, a separate ward and requisite beds have been set up to treat patients affected with these diseases. Since this January, a total of 5,896 people have been affected with dengue in the state and seven of them have succumbed to the disease,” Subramanian said.
He added that the medical camps will be held from 9 am to 4 pm every Sunday from October 29 till December 31.
“This is the first time in the history of the health department, 10,000 medical camps are going to be conducted,” Subramanian said.
