A strong 6.4-magnitude earthquake jolted Nepal on Friday night, the National Center for Seismology said. The tremors were also felt in North India, including Delhi, Noida and Gurugram, and Bihar, but local officials had no immediate reports of injuries or serious damage.
The epicentre of the quake was in Nepal at a depth of 10 km, the NCS said. People in Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR) felt strong tremors and rushed out of their homes. The earthquake shook buildings in the national capital. This is the third time in a month that strong quakes have struck Nepal.
A top official in Jajarkot district, near where the earthquake hit, Suresh Sunar told Reuters“This was a big earthquake. We have heard some damage to houses. We are collecting details. So far no reports of human injuries. Police and army have been mobilised.”
Social media users also reported feeling the quake in the northern cities of Lucknow. Six people died in November 2022 when a 5.6-magnitude earthquake struck Doti district, not far from Jumla.
Nearly 9,000 people died in 2015 when a 7.8-magnitude quake struck Nepal, destroying more than half a million homes.
On October 15, Delhi and NCR felt strong tremors, days after similar strong jolts were felt on October 3. The estimated magnitude of the earthquake that jolted Delhi and neighbouring areas was 3.1, which occurred at 4.08pm. According to the National Centre for Seismology, the earthquake hit Haryana’s Faridabad, at a depth of 10km. The epicentre for the quake was nine kilometres east of Faridabad and 30 kilometres southeast of Delhi.

” I was watching TV and felt like a little dizzy all of a sudden…then I saw on the TV about the earthquake and suddenly, I came out of my home” Tushar, a resident of Noida, told news agency ANI.
“I was lying on bed and it started shaking and I noticed even the ceiling fan was moving so I came out of my home,” said a resident of Patna.
