We couldn’t even check out most of the vehicles since there were so many but the best thing was that nothing was overpriced.
BHPian AKTransAM recently shared this with other enthusiasts.
It’s Fall weather out here, which is a byword for atrocious. My buddy had been wanting to get out of town for a few days on a road trip, so we planned a 10-day trip around the famous Pomona (CA) swap meet.
We had heard a lot about it and decided it would be a great time to check it out. And since I’d never been to California, all the better. I’ll have a few more posts in the coming days on other things we visited on this trip, including Yosemite, the Petersen Auto Museum, Shelby Headquarters etc. But for now, this is the 1st log.
We normally visit the Portland Swap Meet. This meet in comparison was enormous (and the Portland meet is huge). There were literally thousands of cars for sale (yes, I got the number right). We couldn’t even check out most of the cars since there were so many. Most of the cars in the pics were for sale. The best thing was all the cars were very affordable. Nothing was overpriced.
If the car was a project, or driver quality, or show quality, they reflected the prices you’d expect. And it was pretty neat since occasionally you’d have drivers going up and down the strip in the swap meet, so you could check out more cars driving around. The only downside was that it was 94 degrees, no wind, and all on asphalt with no shade, so it was incredibly hot, especially for 2 dudes who’re from Alaska and not used to that heat. But worth it. I’ll probably have to break this post up into 2 pages due to the number of pictures. Anyways, the pics follow!
The entrance to the meet
Cars driving around. Supercharged Mustang in the back. Not sure how he was avoiding overheating driving around that slow in the heat
Lincolns for sale
Old Studebaker. Great condition
Mustang
Pontiac LeMans. I’m partial to any old Pontiacs. Really well engineered, fun, and powerful cars
1970 Mustang Mach 1
1980 Camaro
1990 Camaro
Beautiful Old Chevy for sale
Legendary Buick Grand National for sale. These are really cool and desirable cars. I’d like to drive one of those someday, but wouldn’t ever be able to afford one.
Former Navy Surplus Ford for sale
Ford Gran Torino. This body style was only made for 2 years, and they’re very good-looking cars
67 Pontiac Firebird. This one wasn’t for sale, just displayed
1971 Mustang Mach 1
Old Toyota FJ for sale
1960’s vintage Jeep Cherokee for sale. I had one of these a few years ago. Don’t miss them at all. They look great but are nightmares. They’re fun when they run, the operative words being “when they run”
Pontiac GTO. This one wasn’t for sale I don’t think
Beautiful chopped “Lead Sled” 50’s Mercury. Amazing workmanship. Thing was a work of art.
Even the front hood emblem was redone!
