The forthcoming Mahindra Thar 5-door is currently undergoing its final testing phase, and it is anticipated that the ultimate production variant will grace the roads by mid-2024. This lifestyle off-roader has been captured on multiple occasions, both with and without camouflage, thanks to an abundance of spy images and videos. To begin, let’s focus on the design. The 5-door Thar will showcase subtle cosmetic alterations that distinguish it from its 3-door counterpart. Some of its design elements may draw inspiration from the Thar.e conceptwhich made its debut in South Africa on August 15, 2023. Spy images hint at newly-designed projector headlamps, a revised front grille, and updated LED DRLs for the off-road SUV.
Examining its side profile, the Thar 5-door will exhibit a slightly elongated appearance with additional doors. Noteworthy features include larger side steps, a rear door with a pillar-mounted handle, and newly-designed alloy wheels, further enhancing its distinctive portfolio. The rear profile is expected to remain largely consistent with the 3-door Thar, with the possibility of incorporating new LED taillamp clusters.
Now, turning our attention to the interior, the Mahindra Thar 5-door is poised to receive a more expansive touchscreen infotainment system with an updated user interface compared to its compact sibling. Anticipated features include a single-pane sunroof, a rear parking camera, a new front armrest, and a redesigned center console.
Last but certainly not least, the 5-door Thar is likely to boast the 2.0L turbo petrol and 2.2L turbo diesel engines. The gasoline powerplant is expected to deliver a robust 200bhp and 370Nm/380Nm, while the diesel variant will be tuned to produce two distinct outputs: 172bhp with 370Nm/400Nm and 130bhp with 300Nm. The lifestyle off-road SUV model lineup will offer two gearbox options – a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic.
